Guyana’s five-player overseas group covers opening power, spin, finishing and seam bowling around a strong West Indian roster.

A group with clear T20 roles
Guyana’s recruitment gives the side a specialist for almost every stage of a T20 innings. Gurbaz can attack the powerplay, Phillips can shift between the top and middle order, and Pretorius covers seam bowling and late hitting.
Tahir remains a wicket-taking leg-spinner, while Nabi can control match-ups with off-spin and steady the batting order. The five names complement rather than duplicate the Warriors’ local strengths.
Support around the West Indian core
Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd and Gudakesh Motie form the central West Indian group. That gives Guyana wicketkeeping, left-handed middle-order batting, pace hitting and spin before an overseas player is selected.
The main decision may come between extra top-order power and an additional bowling option. Conditions at Providence often reward spin, making the Tahir-Nabi pairing an obvious route for the home block.
Away start, Providence finish
The Warriors start in Jamaica on 13 August and travel through Antigua and Trinidad before reaching their Providence Stadium fixtures in September.
Their final league run contains five Guyana matches in eight days. Squad depth will matter there, especially if pitches slow across repeated games at the same venue.
