In brief

Pooran and Narine keep a fading Knight Riders campaign alive

  • Nicholas Pooran made 59, reaching his half-century from 35 balls after scoring 9 from his first 14 deliveries.
  • Sunil Narine took four wickets, three of them inside the Powerplay, including Quinton de Kock and Rivaldo Clarke for ducks.
  • Barbados Tridents slipped to 50 for 5 in the chase and lost their first home game of the CPL 2026 season by 35 runs.

Pooran rides out a slow start at Kensington Oval

Trinbago Knight Riders kept their CPL 2026 play-off hopes alive with a 35-run win over Barbados Tridents at Kensington Oval, built on Nicholas Pooran's 59 and four wickets from Sunil Narine. It was the Tridents' first home game of the season, and it ended with their chase in pieces.

Pooran's innings began badly. He scored 1 from his first 10 balls and 9 from 14 against a tight Tridents start, with Chris Green bowling his four overs straight through and conceding only 17. Three sixes off Mujeeb Ur Rahman got Pooran moving, and from there he reached fifty in 35 balls and began to take the attack apart. Once those sixes landed, the Tridents attack could not hold him, and the left-hander began picking gaps at will against bowlers who had controlled the first half of his innings.

Dropped catch proves costly for the Tridents

Pooran and Colin Munro put on 68 together, comfortably the biggest stand of the match, but the Tridents had their moment. Pooran, on 35, was dropped off debutant Jakeem Pollard, and the miss let him push on to 59 and set up the closing overs for the Trinbago Knight Riders.

In the end the Knight Riders barely used that platform. No boundaries came off the last five overs of their innings, and at the change of innings the Tridents looked the side in control. That changed as soon as Narine took the new ball.

Narine breaks the chase inside the Powerplay

Narine removed Quinton de Kock and Rivaldo Clarke for ducks and took three wickets inside the Powerplay. Goolie and Akeal Hosein struck early too, and when Hosein dismissed Green the Tridents were 50 for 5, with the game already drifting away from the home crowd. The hosts never recovered from those early blows, and the required rate climbed while wickets kept falling at the other end.

Daniel Sams hit out for a while and Sherfane Rutherford tried to bat through with the lower order, but Rutherford fell for 21 trying to clear Lahiru Kumara and the resistance ended there. Trinbago stay in the hunt on the CPL 2026 points table, while Barbados start their home leg with a defeat.
