Motie's final-over heroics put Barbados Tridents into CPL 2026 playoffs
Motie had already taken 2 for 7 with the ball before walking in at number nine and winning a game the Tridents looked to have lost.

In brief
A number nine wins it with the bat after starring with the ball
- Jamaica Kingsmen made 150, with Maaz Sadaqat scoring 47 and Gudakesh Motie taking 2 for 7 from three overs.
- Shadrack Descarte's maiden T20 half-century, 56 from 42 balls, kept the Tridents in a chase that kept slipping away.
- Needing 17 off the final over, Motie took the Tridents home with a single off the last ball to seal a playoff place.
Motie stalls the Kingsmen after a flying start
The Jamaica Kingsmen got off to a flying start against the Barbados Tridents at the Kensington Oval, scoring 50 for 1 in the PowerPlay while captain Chris Green bowled his full allocation inside the first ten overs. Maaz Sadaqat's 47 gave the innings its early shape, but once Gudakesh Motie got rid of him at 86 for 3, the innings lost its shape from there.
The experienced Kingsmen middle order could only manage brief cameos. Andre Russell, Hassan Khan and Keacy Carty each produced a six and a four but departed soon after, as the Tridents fought back on home turf. Motie finished with 2 for 7 from his three overs and the already-qualified Kingsmen were restricted to 150.
Descarte keeps a fading Tridents chase alive
It was the reverse story for the Tridents. Three wickets in the PowerPlay put them on the back foot straight away, and with close to two runs a ball needed for most of the second half of the innings, the chase looked gone more than once.
Shadrack Descarte timed his effort well. His only two sixes came in a crucial 15th over that produced 16 runs, on his way to a memorable maiden T20 half-century. He made 56 from 42 balls, but the Tridents still went into the final over needing 17 runs, with Motie at the crease at number nine.
Motie smashes 17 off the final over
Motie slashed Odean Smith for four over point from the first legal ball of the over and smashed the next one straight for six, with two wides also helping the Tridents' cause. It still needed a scrambled single off the final delivery, and Motie found it, completing a win that had looked lost for most of the chase.
The win secures the Barbados Tridents a place in the knockout stages. The Kingsmen are through as well, taking fourth place thanks to a superior net run rate to the Saint Lucia Kings, and the two sides meet again in the CPL 2026 Eliminator. Final positions are on the points table.
