Falcons rout Warriors in CPL 2026 Qualifier 1
Antigua & Barbuda Falcons produced the performance of the tournament to reach their first CPL final, hammering Guyana Amazon Warriors by nine wickets in CPL 2026 Qualifier 1 at Kensington Oval. The Warriors were bowled out for 76, and the chase took just 32 balls, the second-fastest win in CPL history.
The Falcons chose to bowl and trusted their attack on a surface that has rewarded sides keeping wickets in hand. For six overs the plan looked risky. After that, their two spinners dismantled Guyana in a burst of eight wickets that decided the match before the chase even began.
Shadab's googly hat-trick wrecks the middle order
Guyana ended the Power Play on 34 for 1, watchful but intact. Sufyan Moqim broke through first, drawing a loose shot from Glenn Phillips to deep mid-wicket and getting Mohammad Haris caught behind by Amir Jangoo. Then came the over that finished the innings as a contest.
Shadab Khan's second over was all googlies. Shimron Hetmyer skied one to long-on. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was trapped lbw, with the review upholding the decision. Sampson then missed a flighted googly that crashed through the gate, completing the hat-trick and leaving Guyana 45 for 6. Moqim returned to remove Khary Pierre and Shai Hope, Shadab picked up his fourth with Imran Tahir, and Shamar Springer closed the innings after a brief Romario Shepherd counterattack. The last nine wickets had fallen for 42 runs.
Cornwall 49 off 16 ends it in 32 balls
Tahir took the new ball himself for Guyana, trying to fight fire with fire. Rahkeem Cornwall simply hit him out of the attack, taking on Tahir, Miraz and Pierre with huge blows through the Power Play. He raced to 49 from 16 balls, falling just short of a fifty that would have come close to Andre Russell's 14-ball CPL record, caught by Hetmyer off Tahir.
His job was done. Evin Lewis, batting through cramp, took 21 runs from one Shamar Joseph over, Amir Jangoo got off the mark with a boundary, and Lewis hit the winning runs. The Antigua & Barbuda Falcons move into Sunday's final in fearsome form, while the Guyana Amazon Warriors must regroup quickly for Qualifier 2 against the Jamaica Kingsmen.
