CPL to Honour Sir Garfield Sobers at the 2026 Final

The league’s tribute
The Caribbean Premier League will honour Sir Garfield Sobers during its 2026 finals programme in Barbados. CPL chief executive Pete Russell issued the league’s tribute on 18 July, remembering Sobers for his influence on West Indies cricket and his personal generosity away from the field.
Russell said Sobers continued to give time and advice to younger players long after his international career. He also remained closely connected to Kensington Oval, where the men’s CPL final will be staged for the first time this season.

Sobers was born in Barbados and became one of the defining players in West Indies history. Kensington Oval was central to that story and remained his home ground in the public imagination.
The 2026 playoffs run from 16 to 20 September at the Bridgetown venue. CPL has not yet published the detailed form of its tribute, but the league says the final will provide an opportunity to remember Sobers and his impact across the Caribbean.
