In brief
Warriors fold for 99 as Tridents finish the group stage in style
- Guyana Amazon Warriors were bowled out for 99, their second-lowest total of the CPL 2026 season.
- A.M. Ghazanfar took three wickets in five balls and Johann Layne also claimed three for the Tridents.
- Brandon King's unbeaten 44 took Barbados home by six wickets with 31 balls to spare.
Ghazanfar rips the heart out of the Warriors innings
The Guyana Amazon Warriors ended the CPL 2026 group stage with their worst night of the season, bowled out for 99 by the Barbados Tridents at the Kensington Oval. Put in to bat, they looked settled for two overs. Then A.M. Ghazanfar bowled the third over and the innings fell apart.
Ghazanfar took three wickets in the space of five balls. Mavendra Dindyal was stumped in odd fashion, the ball bouncing off Quinton de Kock's chest before the keeper completed the dismissal. Two balls later Shai Hope chipped one to short mid-wicket, and then came the big one: Shimron Hetmyer edged the ball onto his pads and de Kock took the catch. At 15 for 3, the league leaders were in real trouble.
Linde and Layne keep the squeeze on Guyana
Glenn Phillips tried to lead a recovery but holed out to Chris Green off George Linde, who struck again with his very next ball, removing Dwaine Pretorius first up to set up a hat-trick chance. Quinton Sampson and Romario Shepherd offered some resistance, but Johann Layne broke the stand by claiming Sampson, then bowled Ronaldo Alimohamed with his next delivery for another hat-trick opportunity.
Sherfane Rutherford was brought into the attack and needed one ball to dismiss Shepherd and end the innings. Ghazanfar and Layne finished with three wickets apiece as the Warriors, who had dominated opponents for much of the season, were dismissed for 99.
King guides the Tridents home in the chase
A low total can still make a chase awkward, and the Warriors made early inroads. Veerasammy Permaul provided the first breakthrough when Zachary Carter fell cheaply, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled de Kock for just 3, but the Tridents still reached 33 for 2 at the end of the PowerPlay. Imran Tahir, making his 100th CPL appearance, removed Rutherford and kept the pressure on.
Shadrack Descarte went after Tahir with sweeps and reverse sweeps and entertained the home crowd before a brief weather interruption broke his momentum. Brandon King had no such trouble: the opener finished unbeaten on 44 and steered the Barbados Tridents home with 31 balls to spare. Despite the defeat, the Warriors finish top of the CPL 2026 points table, with the Tridents third and also through to the playoffs.
