Chinelle Henry steals the WCPL 2026 opener for Jamaica Empress

Jamaica Empress won their first ever Limacol WCPL match by one wicket, beating Guyana Amazon Warriors off the very last ball at Kensington Oval thanks to Chinelle Henry. The Empress went into the final over of a rain-shortened 19-over chase needing 17, with Henry set but partners running out.

Two run-outs in that over left Henry needing eight from the final two deliveries, with the Warriors captain Chloe Tryon bowling and Henry fighting to keep the strike. Henry settled it herself, launching back-to-back sixes to spark wild celebrations from the new franchise in their debut match.

Campbelle fifty sets up the Warriors' 138 for 7

The Warriors had been sent in and crawled through the Power Play, losing two wickets while scoring 19. Shemaine Campbelle and Realanna Grimmond then took charge, adding 97 from 63 balls for the third wicket before a one-handed catch from Zaida James removed Grimmond for 45 from 46 balls.

Campbelle brought up her second WCPL half-century and top-scored with 56 from 33 balls, but her dismissal started a slide. Stafanie Taylor and Nonkululeko Mlaba took two wickets each as the Warriors slipped from 104 for 2 to 114 for 5, then lost their last five wickets for 22 runs. Tryon finished unbeaten on 21 from 16, and the innings closed on 138 for 7.

Lanning starts the chase, Henry finishes it

Meg Lanning put the chase on track quickly, making 31 from 21 balls with five boundaries before falling at the end of the fifth over with the score on 48 for 1. The Warriors then fought back hard either side of a rain delay that cut the chase to 19 overs, taking five wickets for 16 runs through the middle overs, with Erin Burns and Shabnim Ismail claiming two each.

Henry turned it back around on her own. The left-hander hit four sixes in an unbeaten 41 from 21 balls and had the final say off the last delivery. The result gives the new Empress side a winning start in the four-team tournament, with the remaining fixtures in our WCPL 2026 fixture guide and the wider tournament picture in the Guyana Amazon Warriors team guide.
