Warriors spin squeezes Knight Riders to 126 for 8 at Providence
Guyana Amazon Warriors ended their CPL 2026 homestand by knocking out the defending champions, beating Trinbago Knight Riders by six wickets at Providence Stadium. Sent in, Trinbago took a careful route through the powerplay and reached 43 without the collapse that has hurt so many visiting sides at this ground, but the innings broke open soon after.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz removed Colin Munro and Nicholas Pooran with consecutive deliveries, and the wickets kept coming. Imran Tahir dismissed Alex Hales for a quick 22, Justin Greaves held one end together at about a run a ball until Shamar Joseph bowled him with a yorker, and Mehidy finished with four wickets. Akeal Hosein's 12 from nine balls was the best the rest could offer as Trinbago limped to 126 for 8.
Hope paces a chase the Warriors never rushed
Providence has rewarded patience all season, and the Warriors played the chase exactly that way. Glenn Phillips, Mavendra Dindyal and Shai Hope took them to 35 for 1 from the powerplay, and even when Usman Tariq removed Phillips for 11, the required rate never climbed out of control.
Hope batted the way Greaves had earlier, picking his moments and giving the bowlers little to aim at. He put on 49 with Shimron Hetmyer, who fell to Sunil Narine with Greaves taking a diving catch, and after Mehidy was caught at short cover, Hope finished the job himself, clearing the ropes to complete the win with eight deliveries left and end unbeaten on 42.
Champions out as Warriors march into the playoffs
That is the end of Trinbago's title defence. A season that never quite caught fire closed with their attack unable to defend a below-par total on a wearing surface, against the side that has made low chases look routine at home.
For Guyana, an eighth win of the season sends them into the playoffs as the side everyone wants to avoid, and they close the group stage on Sunday night in Barbados against the Tridents.
